Parmelee: A glimpse into the future
via Twins Target September 27, 2011 at 11:13 PM

Reason for excitement, or simply straw-grasping?As the team's loss column approaches triple-digits, both the front office and armchair GM's across the country are entering winter mode. Much ink has been spilled on the topic of offseason trades and acquisitions, but the key to a successful 2012 season – or at least a fairer feud with the .500-mark – may be found in last night's lineup.Kansas City's

One on One With Jim Thome
via Twins Target August 19, 2011 at 05:10 PM

Jim Thome was recently at Cub Foods on 26th Avenue just south of Minneapolis for a public meet-and-greet, and was promoting his involvement with Pepsi Max' "Field of Dreams" program. For more information about this program and for a chance to play against some of MLB's legends in your hometown, visit mlb.com/pepsimax.I had a chance to talk with Jim Thome about No. 600, and his storied career.

Relief: A wish list
via Twins Target July 19, 2011 at 06:25 PM

In innings six through nine this year, the Twins have been outscored by 48 runs. When the Twins have been tied in the last four innings of a game this year, they have gone on to lose more games than they've won. Unquestionably, the greatest need for this Minnesota squad is bullpen relief. Ignoring the iconoclastic pitching of Glen Perkins, the four relief pitchers with the most innings pitched thi

Build to win big, or win now?
via Twins Target July 18, 2011 at 05:55 PM

Should the Twins try to win their division, or build a team capable of winning the World Series? This shouldn't come as a walloping shock to any of you, but the Twins aren't a good baseball team. They are allowing far more runs than they are scoring, they are receiving zero offensive production from what was supposed to be their greatest strength, and the team has one of the worst bullpens in the l

In Pictures: What happened to the Twins?
via Twins Target June 28, 2011 at 05:01 PM

Nine players were in the Twins' batting order on Opening Day. Six of them are now injured. The Twins are among the worst in the league in just about every offensive and defensive statistic. But it's not like they've been fielding a competitive team night in and night out...The most frequently-used Twins' batting lineup this year includes a pitcher in the No. 9 hole. It has been used three times. Ga

Cuddyer, Casilla, and shifting expectations
via Twins Target June 23, 2011 at 10:19 PM

Cuddyer and Casilla didn't factor into the Twins' long-term plans a few months ago. Now, they're two of the only things keeping the team from collapsing. With 15 victories in their last 19 games, the Twins have been able to piece together some serious momentum this month. The biggest reason for this winning stretch has been phenomenal pitching. While the lineup lacked the bats of Justin Morneau, Jim

Nishioka: Run-saving fielder or defensive liability?
via Twins Target June 22, 2011 at 06:19 PM

Just how good of a fielder is Tsuyoshi Nishioka? When the Twins signed Tsuyoshi Nishioka last winter, they knew they weren't adding another power bat to the lineup. Minnesota hoped the Japanese star would bring his speed and bat control across the Pacific, but didn't know whether his defensive skills would allow him to effectively play either shortstop or second base. There is no telling whether Nis

Buying or selling?
via Twins Target June 20, 2011 at 06:55 PM

A few short weeks ago, Twins fans were preparing for one of the biggest fire-sales in franchise history. Now, many are preparing for October baseball. The Twins have won each of the five series they've played this month. They swept a four-game series against the Royals, a three-game set against the Padres, and a two-game stand against the White Sox. Minnesota has gained plenty of ground in the AL C

On the Upswing
via Twins Target June 14, 2011 at 05:19 PM

I tossed in the towel a few weeks ago. Is it too late to take it back? The Twins were more than a dozen games out of the divisional race, injuries had ravaged the lineup, and those who had managed to stay healthy weren't performing well. I was growing disinterested in Minnesota's major-league club, and turned my eyes to the future. It was time to call it quits. I was hardly alone in making this ju

Catching Up... For a While
via Twins Target June 10, 2011 at 12:24 AM

On the surface, it seems the Twins' season has taken a turn for the better. But we all know better.Minnesota may have jumped ahead a few games in the standings, but they're still the same dismal team they've always been. This same team that won just five of their last 23 games to close out the month of May has now won seven of their last eight. If that's not the definition of an aberratio

Chase Field: Where optimism escapes me
via Twins Target May 22, 2011 at 11:06 PM

I hate to be that guy, but the Twins are an awful team. My lack of optimism is justified. Injuries, bad luck, and ineptitude have a death-grip on the team, and reaching the postseason already seems like too tough a task. Minnesota figures to be full-fledged sellers at the trade deadline, and I'm already looking at prospects for the 2012 amateur draft. Being a Twins fan hasn't been easy this year.

Game 28: No-No for Liriano
via Twins Target May 03, 2011 at 10:30 PM

It wasn't pretty, but Francisco Liriano hurled a no-hitter Tuesday night against the Chicago White Sox. In a symbolic gesture that represented my apathy towards the MLB-worst Twins, I had muted the game and moved it over to my secondary monitor. I may have been half-heartedly watching, but I could recognize that Liriano didn't have his best stuff working. Being far too concerned with Liriano's hal

Twins Farm: Any Help?
via Twins Target May 03, 2011 at 04:48 PM

BY MICHAEL L. WHITE The Minnesota Twins are 9-18. .333 Winning Percentage. Bottom of the AL. Worse than the Astros. Worst rotation in baseball. Worst offense in baseball. Ineffective bullpen. Forgettable defensive unit. With all the signs pointing to failure, including the not-mentioned disabled list pile-ups, the time is now to show improvement. The division disparity is ten games, but five fu

A month in review, a month in horror
via Twins Target May 02, 2011 at 12:43 PM

BY MICHAEL L. WHITE Whilst futility continues to rear its head to the tune of a sweep the not-ready-for-primetime Kansas City Royals, your Minnesota Twins now stand apart as THE WORST TEAM IN BASEBALL. No more hiding behind injuries, depth problems, and cold bats—this is your AL and MLB cellar-dweller. One can try to ascertain the problems simply by looking at the Disabled List, which contains

Moving Mauer to the Outfield
via Twins Target April 19, 2011 at 06:54 PM

Joe Mauer is the best catcher in baseball. As far as bold statements go, this one isn't exactly earth-shattering. An argument could be made for Buster Posey, and Brian McCann is no slouch, but Mauer provides a great bat at a position where quality offense is hard to find.In fact, a large portion of Mauer's value lies in the fact that he puts on the catching armor at least 135 times every summer. Id

Game 15: Back to winning ways, sans M&M boys
via Twins Target April 17, 2011 at 09:18 PM

You can always count on your B-lineup to come through in the clutch. I particularily enjoyed the Holm-Repko-Tolbert scoring combination in the 5th.
